Which? Airport Parking…..

May 7,2012

The consumer magazine, Which? published a report recently revealing the “do’s” and “don’ts” when it comes to getting the very best prices for airport parking in the UK.

The report which looked at 15 of the major airports in the UK advised that it is always much more expensive to just turn up to the airport and park your car; rather than booking in advance to benefit from parking discounts offering customers cheaper airport parking. Customers who turn up to park on the day can actually pay as much as three times more than customers who book airport parking in advance.

For example, Heathrow Airport’s own car park was revealed as having extremely high prices, with fees of around £120 per week when turning up on the day without a booking. Alternatively, for those customers booking in advance, they could expect to park on-airport at Heathrow for £63.80; or as little as £53.95 with Purple Parking at an off-site location close to Heathrow Airport.

The Which? report also found the cheapest parking options are available in advance, so the closer the booking is made to the date of travel the more it will cost. In addition, the report revealed that off-site airport parking is the cheapest option.

A spokesperson for Which? said: “Travellers from the UK’s major airports now have more choice than ever.

“However, this means prices can range from sublimely low to ridiculously high.

“And just because you pay for a particular service, such as meet-and-greet, it’s not guaranteed to take the strain out of your journey.”

So the moral of the story is DONT turn up to the airport on the day if you are hoping to benefit from reasonable airport parking prices. Instead, DO make sure you book well in advance to benefit from cheap airport parking.

Just in case you are unsure of your options when it comes to airport car parking, we have included the following information which helps to clear things up for you:

  • Off Airport Parking

These car parks are located off the airport but are usually situated very close to the airport complex. There are usually several off airport car parks nearby UK airports for the customer to choose from. It is usually better value for money to use this type of secure parking and very simple and easy to use.

Simply arrive at the car park reception, leave your car and keys and you will be transferred to the airport terminal by bus or coach. Your car will be parked for you by a member of the parking staff within the secure car park compound.

Many of the Off-Airport Car Parks now offer hand car wash facilities, so you could also get your car cleaned whilst you relax and enjoy your holiday.

Off-airport parking is usually the cheapest option for airport parking, so may be the best solution if you are on a tight holiday budget.

  • On Airport Parking

These car parks operate a self-park car parking system as they are located within or adjacent to the airport. This makes for very convenient car parking at the airport.

The customer will be required to park their own vehicle upon arrival and then walk to their terminal as most of the car parks are within easy walking distance.

Alternatively, for those On-Airport Car Parks which are slightly further away from the terminals a courtesy bus will usually be provided.

  • Meet and Greet

Meet and Greet airport parking is the equivalent to Valet parking and is the most convenient way for you to park. You simply arrive at the airport terminal to be greeted by a car park representative who will make a quick check of the vehicle, then transfer your car to a secured car park for you. This leaves you free to start your holiday with ease.

At the end of your holiday the car parking representative will meet you outside the airport terminal and deliver your car back to you.

Meet and Greet airport parking is by far the quickest way to park; it offers the best option for those customers travelling to tight deadlines, who do not wished to be delayed after long-haul flights or families who wish to have the least disruption on their holiday.

Meet and Greet airport parking is usually the most expensive way to park at the airport and you need to be sure the airport parking company are insured to offer this type of service.

Go Park ‘n’ Fly offers all three parking options, so be sure to book well in advance with us to benefit from cheap airport parking.

Prepare for possible travel disruption over Easter Holidays

April 2,2012

With  the fuel tanker strikes still looming, our leading travel extra’s company urges holiday makers to prepare for a potentially difficult journey to their airport and to allow plenty of time to get there.

For those travellers who have an early check-in, an airport hotel could prove to be the ideal way to keep the beginning of the Easter getaway hassle free.

The decision to stay before the flight is made considerably easier with the price of airport hotels and parking remaining affordable, for instance: A family room at a Gatwick hotel starts from just £85.00 – and that includes eight days’ holiday parking.

If the situation worsens, customers can cancel their car parking and airport hotel bookings and get a full refund, as long as they have purchased a non-refundable discounted option.

Len McCluskey, general secretary of Unite, who represents the fuel tanker drivers, refused to rule out the possibility that any strike would be held over the Easter holiday.

Online investment pays off for Purple Parking

April 2,2012

Airport parking specialists Purple Parking has announced that traffic, revenue and transactions for the first two months of 2012 have significantly increased as a result of its investment in online activity.

Total traffic to Purple Parking’s website increased by 44% in January and February 2012 compared to the same months in 2011. Revenue generated from web traffic is also up by 82% for the same period, as are transactions which have seen an impressive 88% year-on-year increase.

The increases are as a result of Purple Parking moving more of their investment online and away from offline activity such as print advertising. For example, during the past year the airport parking specialists launched its mobile commerce site to service the increase in traffic from mobile devices and invested in search engine optimisation (SEO). Another contributing factor is the increase in people looking to book their Heathrow Parking product through a Google search.

Oliver Inwards, Head of Online at Purple Parking, commented: “These figures are extremely pleasing and shows we were right to focus the majority of spend on building our online presence.

As more and more of our customers use the internet to search for and book the airport parking that they need, we needed to ensure that our website was not only easy to find, but that we invested in making it both faster and easier to use.

We’re always looking at ways to stay at the forefront of our industry so we expect to continue improving our online presence where possible by listening to and responding to the demands of our customers.

For example, we’ve recently added a travel advice section covering helpful topics such as how to cope with travel stress and details of ski baggage allowances for the major airlines.”

Sales of airport parking traditionally increase from July to September, so if these trends continue then Purple Parking is set for a busy summer. The company which has been parking cars for over 25 years operates at 23 airports throughout the UK and offers three different types of parking options; meet and greet, park and ride and park and ride premium.
