Travel Money
Make sure you do some research and choose the best currency exchange provider for your circumstances.
You can order your currency online, over the telephone or pop in to a local travel branch or bank to order your holiday currency.
Keep in mind that if you order more than the minimum amount advertised that you will not pay an order fee.
Things to keep in mind when getting Travel Money
Most people will leave it right until the last minute and pick up their travel money from a local bank or even the airport just before their flight. However, keep in mind that by getting you travel money well in advance that you could make some considerable savings; especially if you are prepared to shop around for the best exchange rates.
Commission and Currency Exchange Rates
If you can, avoid buying your travel money at the airport as you will not get the most for your money.
Commission rates vary considerably depending on where you order your travel money from so it's advisable when buying foreign currency to shop around online, in person or via the telephone for the best rates. But if you order online for delivery then consider any delivery charges and the time required if you need the money quickly.
Mix Holiday Money, Travellers Cheques and Credit Cards
When travelling abroad it could be useful to take a mixture of methods for payment for goods. For example, you may want to have a small amount of cash in the relevant currency on you to buy small items such as drinks or to tip the waiter in a restaurant. You may want to take Travellers Cheques for peace of mind as these can be cancelled if they are lost or stolen. You may also want to ensure you take your credit card for any larger purchases or for added security should you need to get your hands of extra funds.
When travelling abroad make sure you don't become a victim of theft and fraud. There are things you can do before you travel to protect yourself and there are additional precautions you can take whilst you are away.
