Hiring / Rental of a Car
If you are planning on going abroad this year and want to see as much as you can whilst on your holiday then the cheapest option is often to hire a car.
Use our on-line quote system and booking tool to enable you to book your Hire Car of choice.
The cost of Hire Cars can soar in the summer months just as the temperatures of your holiday destinations, so use the on-line system to book as far in advance as possible to ensure to receive the best prices.
A Hire Car will give you the most flexibility to come and go as you wish and enable you to travel to all the places you want to go and see at your own pace.
You will be able to travel in the luxury of your own Hire Car which helps you to avoid busy public transport which can often be over-populated and dangerous.
However there are some things that you need to be aware of prior to hiring a car to ensure you have a safe trip. Here is a list of generic things you need to check prior to hiring a car to drive in any country:
- Are you old enough? Various countries have different laws to the UK in regards to how old you have to be to be able to drive in their country, so check the legal driving age.
- Make sure you take the correct documentation with you - this will usually be your Driving License and a Credit Card. You will need this with you upon collection of hiring the car.
It is best to keep these important documents with you when travelling around just in case you are asked to produce these by the Police.
- Make sure you have adequate Insurance. When driving a hire car you need to be protected for personal liability, theft, collision damage, and medical cover for you and any travelling companions.
- Familiarise yourself with the driving laws of that specific country; such as which side of the road do they drive on, the speed limits of their roads, use of mobile phones whilst driving, parking regulations and so on.
- Does the country have any specific regulations in regards to what you need to carry with you in the car? Some countries will expect you to carry a warning triangle just in case of an emergency breakdown.
- Travel in safety. Make sure that everyone wears seatbelts as this is the law in most countries. Also make sure you have emergency contact numbers with you should you need them in case of any emergency.
- Do not drink alcohol and drive. Most countries are tough for breaking such a law; so do not risk ruining your holiday by breaking the law.
- Make sure you know which type of fuel the hire car requires as it could be a costly and time consuming mistake if you use the wrong type of fuel. Also find out if you are expected to return the hire car with a full tank of fuel; or not.
- If you are travelling with children make sure you have access to a car seat as this is now a law in many countries for children under a certain age which will differ in each country. Car seats can usually be rented from the Car Hire Company.
If you are travelling to the USA and wish to hire a car then you need to be aware of the driving regulations for each and every state you plan on visiting as many of the states have different laws.
If you are travelling within Europe then you will need to familiarise yourself with the laws of the country in which you are travelling as each country will have very different laws.
Ensure you plan your route before travelling and have access to a map just in case you get lost. A map will minimise the need to ask for directions which could be tricky if you do not speak the local language. Alternatively, hire a GPS system which is usually available from the Car Hire Company at a small additional cost.
Finally, just relax and enjoy travelling around in the comfort of your own hire car!
