Located just 12km from the city centre, Edinburgh airport is one of the largest and busiest airports in the country. It serves Fife, Aberdeenshire, the Borders and Tayside officially but it also plays host to passengers from all over the world today. In 2003 alone it saw almost 8 million travellers pass through but demand has increased since then and the renovations and expansion that took place in 2001 have been put to excellent use as a result.
Owner by BAA since 1971, Edinburg Airport was actually founded in World War I when it was used as an aerodrome. Shortly after the war, it was adopted by the RAF to be the home of the Royal Flying Corps. It persisted as a military base until the 1970s when it was necessary to use it commercially to take full advantage of the latest traveller trends, including package holidays and a greater level of accessibility.
Today, Edinburgh Airport is one of the most comprehensive in the UK in terms of the facilities and services available. It has been designed specifically with passenger experience and convenience in mind so you will find the following there for you:
